To help ensure their stay is merry and bright, we’ve put together a guide filled with thoughtful details and comforts of home.

One of our favorite ways do that is with a guest room kit: a basket or bin filled with items guests may have forgotten or that will help make their stay more comfortable. These kits are simple to put together, and your guests are sure to appreciate your extra effort.

How to make a guest room kit

1. Include These Essentials

Here are our favorite items to include in a guest room kit:

  • Toothbrush
  • Toothpaste
  • Bottle of water
  • Ear plugs
  • Phone charger
  • Home Made Simple hand soap — gentle on hands and smells amazing
  • Wash cloth and hand towel
  • Downy Wrinkle Releaser in case your guests’ clothes get wrinkly from the suitcase

2. Don’t Forget the Wi-fi!

Because most guests like to stay connected while they’re out of town, make sure to provide your Wi-fi network and password. We’ve created a printable template for displaying that info on a nightstand or dresser. All you have to do is hit print, add your network and password, pop it into a frame and display it in your guest room. (See, we told you it was simple!)

3. Go the Extra Mile

If you really want to be the host with the most, add a few more convenience items to your guest room kit, like cotton swabs or cotton balls, hand lotion, a bottle of ibuprofen or aspirin, or a “Do Not Disturb” sign for the door (which can come in handy when you’re trying to figure out whether guests are still snoozing or if they’re ready to start the day).

You can also stock the closet with spare hangers, an iron (in case your celebration calls for fancy attire), extra blankets and pillows, and fresh towels. Pro tip: We like to set aside special towels just for guests. Since you don’t use them every day, they’ll look nice and feel soft.

Lastly, as you’re cleaning and preparing the guest room, wash sheets and towels your guests may use with our Home Made Simple unscented laundry bundle. We love using this gentle detergent and fabric softener in case guests have skin sensitivities.

While the holidays are filled with the hustle and bustle of planning, baking and entertaining, taking a little extra time to add special yet simple touches will make your guests feel right at home — which is exactly how you want them to feel.

Happy ho, ho, ho-sting!
